Medicinal Corn Silk

Medicinal Corn Silk
It's corn season and we can't eat it fast enough from the maara at the moment! (summer season in Aotearoa)

But before you discard the soft silk at the top of each cob, consider using it, as it is VERY medicinal!

Corn silk is one of the most useful aids for the entire urinary system:
  • bladder irritation or inflammation plus
  • kidney stones/gravel and
  • urinary retention
  • it soothes the prostate and can ease prostatitis.
  • corn silk has been very successfully used to help prevent bed wetting in children also
  • it is also a fantastic poultice for infected wounds or drawing out the gunk from boils
How to use it?

You can chop them finely and eat them fresh, but the easiest way to take it is to make a tea with it: 1 Tbspn of corn silk to 1 cup of boiling water.

You can sweeten it with some honey if you like.

If you want a stronger brew, use 1/4 cup of corn silk to 1 cup of boiling water.

You an also dry some corn silk in a warm, dry spot, for use during the rest of the year.

Kai is medicine 💚
