Comfrey is another of my favourite herbs, it is incredibly versatile! It's greatest reputation is it's healing powers upon bones and ligaments.
We recently used a comfrey poultice on our eldest daughter who had a very badly swollen ankle she couldn't walk on... the next day, her foot was back to normal, it's amazing stuff!
Comfrey is best used for treating:
The high levels of allantoin and
rosmarinic acid found in comfrey cause rapid growth of new skin cells,
which can cause a deeper wound to heal from the outside first, sealing
in an infection, hence using it for small wounds only until the deeper wound is closer to healing fully.
There are numerous ways to enjoy the healing qualities of dried comfrey, including:
Dried leaves are easily stored for use
when needed in making poultices or compresses, or in creating a healing
oil, or comfrey salve.
Even greater benefits can be enjoyed by combining comfrey with other healing herbs such as calendula, plantain, and yarrow.
Comfrey is used as a tea
for upset stomach, ulcers, heavy menstrual periods, diarrhea, bloody
urine, persistent cough, painful breathing (pleuritis), bronchitis,
cancer, and chest pain (angina). It is also used as a gargle for gum
disease and sore throat.
We do recommend that you consult with a qualified medical herbalist before taking it internally though.
Our comfrey is organically grown, sustainably harvested and dried in fresh batches.
