Goldenrod was brought to NZ by early settlers and was the herb given to all newly married couples at the time, considered so important that every family should have it growing in their garden!
It’s one of the first herbs to think of for respiratory phlegm, (alongside Kumarahou, Mullein & Usnea), as well as wounds & urinary infections.
Goldenrod is a premier decongestant, effectively alleviating upper
respiratory congestion stemming from allergies, sinusitis, flu, or the
common cold. It is one of the strongest herbs for drying the sinuses.

The diuretic quality of goldenrod may also help to relieve edema, gout, and kidney stones.
Goldenrod is used by Native American peoples and was adopted by
European settlers, as a wash or poultice to help heal wounds, burns, open

scientific name Solidago, which means “to make whole.”
Use it for boils, open sores, and skin irritations, eczema, wounds, ulcers etc.
Digestive Remedy: Internally,
many species of goldenrod have been used to quell diarrhea, likely

Emotionally/spiritually, Goldenrod brings to us an ability to take
charge of our own emotional and physical health. Goldenrod is
emotionally and psychologically strengthening and gifts us encouragement and growth. Goldenrod brings calm and an ability to
heal after upsetting or scaring experiences that have left you feeling
anxious, disjointed, or deeply upset at core levels and directs you back to

Tinctures are a liquid extract made by steeping fresh organic herbs in alcohol. Tinctures are the most concentrated form of herbal medicine and if taking internally (consult a herbalist) are best taken under the tongue where they directly enter the blood stream. They are very strong and may be taken diluted in water, juice or tea.
Dilute in water to the ratio of 2.5 ml of tincture to 1/2 cup of water.
Goldenrod can be overly drying
as a beverage or tonic tea for people with a dry constitution, as it is
diuretic, astringent, and decongestant. Short-term usage shouldn’t be a
problem. Do not use in pregnancy.
Ingredients: organically grown Goldenrod leaves & flowers, steeped in Kerikeri-made pure alcohol & vegetable glycerin.
